What does it mean to be a Citizen of The World? During this class, we will be asking ourselves that question over and over again. Over the past few years, some people in the world have made assumptions as to what it is to be an American. Most often these assumptions are only based on hearsay and stereotype, just like when Americans make assumptions about French or Muslim people. Welcome to World History! As we have begun the third millennium, the need to know our common heritage as human beings has become paramount. It has been said that to not know one’s history, dooms one to repeat it. Think about that statement. I have asked this question to hundreds of students over the years… if you don’t know where you came from, HOW IN THE WORLD can you know where you are going. The answer to that question is at the heart of this class. World History is a story about adventurers, thieves, Kings and Queens, religious leaders… ALL who have changed the world… common people just like you and me who grew up all over the world to do incredible things during their lives that changed the course of history. But remember, they were people JUST LIKE YOU AND ME. They may have been like you, or they may have been totally different, however their stories are fun, entertaining… and yes, educational. J
In this class, as well as traditional research methods, you will use the Internet and watch multimedia presentations, to research historical civilizations, societies, people, governments, armies, religions, and more all around the world and all through time. H.G. Wells wrote a story a hundred years ago about a time machine, and people today say that it is impossible to travel back in time…well I have news for you, this class is going to be an 18-week time travel tour around the world!
